Description of role and duties:
  • After School Program: The After School Program aims to develop critical thinking, communication, and leadership skills and to provide opportunities for students to explore talents, passions, and interests around a central social justice theme/topic. In the fall, teachersdesign and teach one engaging introductory lesson to rotating groups of students. In the spring, teachers guide students through extension projects that express their understanding of concepts from the fall. These projects may take a variety of forms, such as performances, infographics, visual art, and written pieces. Teachers are partnered in teams for both the fall and the spring, and experienced Mentor Teachers provide ongoing professional development to help teachers grow in the classroom.
  • Tutoring Program: Tutoring aims to improve students' academic performance in high-need subjects, to strengthen students' study skills, and to improve students' self-advocacy skills. To achieve these goals, students are provided consistent, one-on-one 90-minute sessions based on an action plan collaboratively generated and monitored by the student, teacher or guidance counselor, parent, and tutor.
