Description of the overall mission of this organization:
Age of Youth Served: 8 and up
Hours of internship: (number of hours, days, times)
Monday-Friday between 2:30-5:30pm
Additional hours can vary due to interns schedule
Description of role and duties: (include administrative or hands-on or both)
· Help staff align RIMOSA programs and Next Generation Science Standards. Create a summary alignment document showing overlap, similarities, and gaps.
· Observe/assist trained educators providing RIMOSA's open-ended, experiential STEAM outreach programs in the community.
· Help conduct, tabulate and evaluate anonymous post-program evaluations
· Meet with Education Committee at meetings once a month to discuss programs, evaluations and areas for program improvements
Paid or unpaid:
Positions are unpaid but can be available for academic credit during the summer, fall and spring semesters for undergraduate or graduate students.
Description of the culture of the place (how many people in the office, dress code, communication style)
RIMOSA does not have a site as of yet. Programs are run in connection with schools, libraries, and other educational organizations. Meetings are held informally, at public meeting places, libraries, or at home work offices. Dress code, when at programs, should be school appropriate and a RIMOSA name tag will be provided.
Additional Requirements: (travel, etc)
- Must be a current undergraduate in third year or more of college or graduate student
- Must be able to function effectively and meet deadlines in a multi-task environment with an ability to work independently and be self-motivated with an entrepreneurial approach.
- Must be creative, and passionate about the arts and sciences (although no significant science or art background is required, as on the job training will be conducted.)
- Must provide their own transportation to program sites and meetings.
- Must be able to lift objects approximately 20 to 30 pounds.
- Major, minor or experience in education preferred
- Must have background check before working with youth
Special notes on process of getting this internship:
RIMOSA is recruiting creative, committed, and self-starting individuals with strong inter personal skills to be Education Interns. These interns will work directly either with one of RIMOSA'S Education Coordinators Juliette Casselman or Dawn Temple and/or Dr. Bonnie Epstein, RIMOSA's founder and president. This internship is for anyone interested in learning more about Next Generation Science Standards, STEM to STEAM, the importance of hands-on and open-ended programming and middle school/high school curriculum development. Candidates should be well-organized, able to work independently and as a team and have a strong interest in education.
